SENIORS According to ISU rules 609 and Communication 1998, 2003, 2013, 2015, 2019 Short Dance: Duration 2:50 +/- 10 seconds Rhythms: Blues plus swing or hip hop Compulsory elements: • One (1) compulsory dance element: Midnight Blues steps 5-14, starting from the judges' side of the rink. • One (1) partial step sequence in a dance hold, following immediately after the Midnight Blues steps 14 and ending at the spot where step 5 started. • One (1) short lift is required, but not more than one. • One (1) sequence of consecutive twizzles. CLASSIFICATION 2016/2017: ICE DANCE BASIC NOVICE (BEGINNER NOVICE) LEVEL According to ISU Communication No. 1998, 2003, 2013, 2015, 2019 Age: By the start of the season, i.e. by July 1st, the age of the competitors must not have exceeded fifteen (15) years for ladies and seventeen (17) years for men. Compulsory dances: #2 Foxtrot and #5 American Waltz In the 2016/2017 season, couples may perform the Foxtrot to music of their own choice. The rhythm and tempo of the music must comply with the requirements of the given dance (see ISU Handbook Ice Dance 2003) +/- 2 beats per minute. Vocal music is allowed. The American Waltz is performed to ISU Ice Dance music. Free Dance: Duration 2:30 +/- 10 seconds A well-balanced program must include a) Lifts: not more than one (1) Short Lift b) One (1) step sequence in a dance position on a straight line (center line or diagonal) or curve (circle or serpentine). c) One (1) twizzle set d) One "spinning movement" or "twizzling movement" The dance spin is not included in the list of compulsory elements. If a couple performs at least a two-turn movement together around a common axis on one foot (or two feet) in any dance position, it will be considered as a "spinning movement". The dance couple uses this element/movement as a choreographic means of expression. The panel of judges will not consider this element (movement) as one of the allowed stops. Level of Difficulty Explanation For the Basic Novice level free dance, the highest level of difficulty for all compulsory elements is level 2. No additional elements will be taken into account for the level of difficulty and will be ignored by the Technical Panel.
ADVANCED NOVICE (ADVANCED NOVICE) LEVEL According to ISU Communication No. 1998, 2003, 2013, 2015, 2019 Age: By the start of the season, i.e. by July 1st, neither partner may be younger than ten (10) years old and the age of the competitors must not have exceeded fifteen (15) years for ladies and seventeen (17) years for men. Compulsory dances: Group 1: #4 European Waltz and #20 Tango Group 3 #12 Kilian and #23 Blues In the 2016/2017 season, couples may perform the European Waltz and Kilian to music of their own choice. The rhythm and tempo of the music must comply with the requirements of the given dance (see ISU Handbook Ice Dance 2003) +/- 2 beats per minute. Vocal music is allowed. The Tango and Blues are performed to ISU Ice Dance music. Free Dance: Duration 3:00 +/- 10 seconds A well-balanced program must include a) Not more than two (2) different types of Short Lifts b) One (1) step sequence in a dance position on a straight line (center line or diagonal) or curve (circle or serpentine). JUNIORS According to ISU rules 609 and Communication 1998, 2003, 2013, 2015, 2019 Short Dance: Duration 2:50 +/- 10 seconds Rhythms: Blues plus swing or hip hop • The compulsory dance elements must be performed in the rhythm and style of the Blues. During the compulsory dance elements, the music tempo must be constant and in accordance with the requirements of the Blues. The step sequence on the center line, diagonal, or circle (partners do not touch each other) must not be performed in the Blues rhythm, but in the swing or hip hop rhythm. Compulsory elements: • Two (2) sequences of Blues. Between the two sequences, a loop may be performed in the choreography. • One (1) short lift is required, but not more than one. • One (1) step sequence on the center line, diagonal, or circle - partners do not touch each other. • One (1) sequence of consecutive twizzles.
